The Benefits of Red Light Therapy

The use of Red Light Therapy promotes a cascade of regenerative processes by optimising energy production, making it a preferred treatment for general long-term vitality and peak performance goals. Red Light Therapy beds utilise specific wavelengths of light, typically in the red and near-infrared spectrum, to promote healing and enhance cellular function. This technology is based on photobiomodulation, a process where light energy is absorbed by cells, and is often used in dermatology, sports medicine, and wellness practices to improve skin health, reduce inflammation, and accelerate recovery.

Breaking Down the Benefits of Red Light Therapy

  • Research has shown that Red Light Therapy helps reduce inflammation and pain associated with chronic conditions. It also assists with recovery from injuries and post-surgery pain through enhanced tissue repair.
  • Working to improve circulation and increase energy production in muscle cells, our Red Light Therapy aims to reduce muscle soreness, support faster recovery post exercise and enhance overall performance.
  • Through exposure to wavelengths of light this therapy helps regulate your circadian rhythm and enhance overall sleep quality. It has also shown potential to influence the production of serotonin, consequently improving mood and reducing symptoms of depression.
  • Red Light Therapy stimulates collagen production and promotes healing which works to improve skin elasticity, minimise the appearance of wrinkles, reduce inflammation and help target concerns such as irregular skin tone, texture and acne. It also supports hair growth by stimulating hair follicles.

  • Red Light Therapy is generally safe, however, if you are under 16, are currently pregnant or suffer from the following health concerns it is advised that you do not participate in Red Light Therapy (hyperthyroidism, systemic lupus erythematosus, epilepsy, sensitivity to light, eye diseases, malignant cancers, open wounds or you are using photosensitising medications). Please consult your medical practitioner prior to booking in your session if you are unsure.
  • Generally Red Light Therapy is considered safe and suitable for most skin types. Unlike ultraviolet light, our Red Light Therapy bed uses red and near-infrared wavelengths of light which research has shown to provide the health benefits without negative side effects. Some may experience mild pain, irritation or redness but this should subside post treatment.
  • The frequency of Red Light Therapy sessions depends on your goals and health needs. Most people find that 2-3 sessions per week are ideal for maintaining wellness. However, if you are using Red Light Therapy for pain management or injury recovery you may benefit from daily sessions initially and eventually reduce to 2-3 sessions per week. If you are unsure or looking to target specific concerns we do recommend consulting with your healthcare professional and following their guidelines.
